When I found out that Kat Von D makeup was finally coming to the UK, I was over the moon. I have wanted to try her products for so long. High up on my wishlist was the Lock-It foundation, I love trying out new foundations as I am always on the hunt for the perfect one. I thought I would pick up the foundation while I was in the US first, that way if I liked it I would know what shade I was. I know the makeup line will be available on Debenhams website but I am unsure if it will be coming to stores and its tricky to pick your colour online!
I hate getting colour matched in stores as they seem to always get it wrong with me, I am pale with a yellow undertone but always get matched pink! If I put a pink toned foundation on I look really weird and my face doesn’t match my neck, which is never a good look! When picking up this foundation I braved it and asked the shop assistant in Sephora if she could match me, well that was a mistake. The girl started of by chewing gum an inch away from my face, it was the most irritating thing ever. She then proceeded to apply the shade 42 Light Neutral all over my face, shade 42 is white. Like white white, so if you are super pale it will look awesome on you. Unfortunately I looked in the mirror and have what I can only describe as a white mask on my face, I looked ridiculous! The shop assistant thought it looked fine, she said it was a great match for me! I was really shocked that she thought it looked good, even in the stores lights you could tell it was much too light for me. Then when I said that I thought it was too pale she made out like she had told me that the whole time! Anyway I tried on shade 45 Light Warm and it was a perfect match, I took the foundation from her and declined her offer to help me find more items.
When I got back to my hotel I was eager to try on my new foundation, I used my usual 2 pumps and applied it with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Well I hated it, it was too thick and heavy on my skin, I felt like I could see the layer of makeup sitting on top of my skin. However, I really wanted to love this foundation so tried again, this time I loved it! You really need the teeniest amount as it goes a very long way, I am used to always applying 2 pumps but this foundation is such high coverage that you really don’t need it. I have the most unreliable skin, one day it’s dry as hell and the next oily and this foundation really looks great no matter what my skin is doing. I was worried that it wouldn’t be suited for dry skin due to the full matte coverage but it honestly looked great. The lasting power is the best of any foundation I have tried before, it lasts all day and I find it doesn’t slide off when I am having an oily day.
If you are looking for a foundation with amazing coverage and works for all skin types then make sure you add this one to your wish lists!
